Association of Cameroonians in Denmark - ACAD

What We Do

In Denmark

The Association of Cameroonians in Denmark - ACAD holds monthly meetings. This monthly come together takes place every 3rd Saturday of the month at ACAD's current meeting venue: the Catholic Church Hall at Herlevgårds 14, 2720 Herlev. Every meeting has a group of members acting as host and they provide everyone with delicious food and drinks. Meetings are informal. Members meet, mingle, chat, share dinner (buffet), deliberate on ACAD issues, after which they relax with some music, and dance. It is during these meetings that we plan all our activities.

On this page and others, you can read about some of  our activities here in Denmark and in Cameroon. You are always welcome to contact us to learn more.

In Cameroon

As a diaspora organisation, the Association of Cameroonians in Denmark - ACAD contributes to the development of homeland. From time to time, ACAD carries out charitable activities in Cameroon. This include development projects and humanitarian assistance targeting the most vulnerable population in the most marginalised and underserved communities in Cameroon. To implement these initiatives, ACAD partners with established organisations such as the Milat Foundation and Ayah Foundation that acts as the implementing partners.

We are always on the look out for sponsors in and out of Denmark who can support our development projects back home in Cameroon

OUR ACTIVITIES

in Denmark

Strategic Communing

Our coming together as a community both in times of joy and sadness is at the very core of our existence.

Besides our usual monthly come together, the association has and continue to maintain its strong spirit of solidarity amongst its members especially during joyful as well as difficult moments or incidents. Some notable joyful events for which ACAD has been invited to share with concerned members includes but not limited to marriages and birthday celebrations. Solidarity during sad moments include bereavement of a member.

Socio-cultural and Sporting Activities

We organise social events, cultural festivals and sporting activities

Our activities in these areas are open to both members of the association and the general public. They are planned way ahead and delivered for the consumption or benefit of members and the public. Social and sporting activities are developed and executed by ACAD. Cultural activities such as Cultural Festivals are developed and planned by ACAD but are executed with the help of existing Cameroonian cultural groups.

For more information about these activities, see our yearly calendar or contact us to learn more.

Debates & Educative Talks

We organise debates and educative talks on issues concerning us, life in Denmark and wellbeing

We organise debates and talks targeting both adults and kids. The two takes place during different meeting sessions. These includes such topics as Health, Education, Jobs, Immigration issues, Integration, Child-parent relationship, Children's use of social media, Day-care and child education in Denmark, Parenting/raising kids in Denmark - challenges and opportunities, work-life balance, amongst others.

Social and Economic Development

We care about the social and economic development of our members. This is in our DNA as we strive to be each others keeper

As a people living and working in another country, the social and economic development of each and every one of us is the concern of all. This has always been in our DNA and constitute the very foundation of our communing.  We welcome new comers to Denmark and we provide them with the help they need to start a new life in Denmark, in any way we can. Our topical presentations and educative talks also aims at improving the lives of our members, both old and new.

ACAD Prayer Day

The ACAD Prayer Day is a new initiative by the current executive

In ACAD, just as in our private lives, we always and should put God first. With this new initiative proposed by the new executive, we now have two "ACAD Prayer Days" a year: one in the Easter season during our first meeting after Easter Sunday, and another during Christmas season and takes place during our annual Christmas party which is held the same day as our December monthly General Assembly meeting.

  • A Prayer Lead is chosen ahead of the Prayer Day to lead members with prayers. She/he opens the prayer session.
  • It is followed by spontaneous prayer interjectory from members who wishes to make special prayers to God Almighty. The prayers focuses on members, children, and family members and home and abroad.
  • When that is done, the prayer lead will again give a special prayer for our country Cameroon.
  • That is again followed by another spontaneous prayer interjectory from members who wishes to make special prayers with focus on our country, Cameroon in particular and the world at large.

General Assembly Meetings

The General Assembly is the highest decision-making body and where members meet every month to discuss and plan the affairs of the association. It is also the execution ground for most of our internal or group activities in Denmark.

OUR MONTHLY COME TOGETHER

CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES

Empowering Youths! Empowering Tomorrow!

Know Your Roots: For Our Children

ACAD provides free tutoring and mentorship to children, impacting them with general knowledge about Cameroon. Topics are taken from History, Geography, culture, and social and economic issues peculiar to Cameroon. The goal is for our children to "know their roots", and to understand and keep their identity.

Vital Skills Development

ACAD creates avenues where children learn vital skills such as cooking and baking via lessons organised and sponsored by ACAD. Other activities include the opportunity to learn and develop such skills as plating, makeup, music and other hand crafts.

Leadership Development

Our new Youth Ambassadorial initiative prepares and position our children and youths for both ACAD and global leadership. Through this initiative, children starts building their leadership skills and experiences, develop a sense of responsibility, and build upon a broad spectrum of skills including their social and communication skills.

With our basic hygiene and sanitation initiative, specifically designed and delivered to benefit children and young people, the association promotes healthy habits and better living among communities. These health lessons are sponsored by ACAD.

Basic Hygiene and Sanitation

Children's and Adult Debate Club

ACAD organises debates for children and adults. While our kids engages in debate topics relevant to their education or just awareness, adults debate topics relevant to growth, wellbeing and awareness of both themselves and their children. In both debate series, both the children and their parents learn and grow.

Culture of Respect and Decency

One of the important backbones of the Cameroonian and African culture and tradition is respect for one another. ACAD, We take this seriously and with our mutually beneficial talks, we work to make sure the youths understands the importance of this concept.
